19th July – 5th August is Love Parks Week, so we have put together a guide to some of the lovely green spaces along the Cambridge Line. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to walk the dog, have a picnic or somewhere the children can play, we’ve got just the place for you, in walking distance of the station.

Cambridge City has many parks, but right now Midsummer Common is playing host to the Our Place in Space Trail (https://ourplaceinspace.earth/) – a scale model of the solar system which stretches all the way to Waterbeach. The common is a 1.5 mile 30 minute walk from Cambridge Station.

Foxton has its own recreation ground off Hardman Way, including grass pitches, a children’s play area and skate park. A 10 minute walk from Foxton station. And Foxton Wood is only a 12 minute walk from the station if you love exploring under the trees.

Shepreth Recreation Ground is behind the Village Hall and has plenty of space for games, as well as play equipment. Shepreth Rec is a 2 minute walk from Shepreth Station. A 0.7 mile 13 minute walk from Shepreth Station will take you to the Shepreth L-Moor, a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its diverse habitat of wild flowers.

Melwood local nature reserve in Meldreth is a tranquil riverside setting, perfect for a shady walk on a warm day. A 7 minute walk from Meldreth Station.

Meldreth station also gives access to Stockbridge Meadows in Melbourn, a quiet recreational area with a diverse range of wildlife habitats, and a home to lizards, snakes and butterflies. A 0.8 mile, 16 minute walk from Meldreth Station.

Priory Memorial Gardens is a large park in Royston, which has play areas for juniors and toddlers, and a splash pad in summer – it is a 13 minute walk from Royston Station. Also accessible from Royston Station is Therfield Heath, a 12 minute walk from the station. This chalk grassland habitat is a Local Nature Reserve and SSSI.

Avenue Park in Baldock has play areas for older and younger children, plenty of green space, and a splash pad open May to September. It’s a 10 minute walk from Baldock Station.

In Letchworth, Howard Park and Gardens is only a 5 minute walk from Letchworth Garden City Station. The park was created over 100 years ago in the world’s first garden city. It includes a play area, paddling pol and splash fountain.
