The Rail User Group has responded to the Thameslink Franchise Consultation covering aspirations for the local stations and rail services through Thameslink, and presented this to the Department for Transport, Rail Operators and Passenger Focus.

The group has successfully campaigned for a safety upgrade at Foxton level crossing and a feasabilty study of long term solutions for the crossing, a project involving close cooperation with Network Rail and the County Council. More details of the campaign and supporting documents are here:

Susan witnessed first-hand the risks pedestrians are taking at Shepreth Level crossing. The rules there are simple; if the barriers are down there is a train coming in the next half minute so you risk being killed if you cross.

A major Rail User Group franchise aspiration is “Full disabled access at Meldreth Station”. Currently the London-bound platform is totally inaccessible for wheelchair and push-chair users.

Meldreth, Shepreth and Foxton stations have community-supported station gardens developed with practical help from First Capital Connect. Local residents, schools and businesses, maintain the gardens year round. Oak barrel planters enhance the station platforms.

The Meldreth, Shepreth and Foxton Rail User Group has signed a Community Rail Partnership with First Capital Connect, Cambridgeshire County Council, South Cambridgeshire District Council and Network Rail
